MSU hockey to play non-conference series at in-state rival Northern Michigan next season
Michigan State hockey will be heading to the Upper Peninsula next season.
Michigan State hockey will travel to in-state foe Northern Michigan for a two-game series in October. Northern Michigan released its official schedule for next year on Tuesday, and listed that this two-game series will officially take place on October 24 and 25.
Michigan State and Northern Michigan were once in the same conference -- the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) -- before the Spartans left for the newly formed Big Ten in 2013. The Spartans and Wildcats don't play as much since that occurred, but the two teams did link up this past year as part of the Great Lakes Invitational. The Spartans got the better of the Wildcats in that matchup before eventually winning the tournament.
The official Michigan State schedule for next year has not been released. But we should be expecting that to come out in the next month or two. The Spartans will enter next year as a preseason favorite to win the Big Ten and once again contend for a national championship.
