With Bruno Guimarães ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury, Joelinton demanded he and his fellow Newcastle teammates "step up" in the absence of their captain.

He answered his own call as did another midfield star.

Joelinton and Sandro Tonali have long been associated with Guimarães as part of the midfield three that helped the Magpies to the EFL Cup last season, and both scored inside a wild opening six minutes at St. James' Park.

The Italian got the first, finishing off a move he started before the Brazilian brilliantly volleyed home Harvey Barnes' cross for a second just over a minute later.

It's Joelinton's first start in a month following a groin issue and he's making up for both lost time and the loss of his skipper.
