NFL insider says Dolphins haven't received calls for Tyreek Hill
A few reporters have said that the Miami Dolphins have received calls about wide receiver Tyreek Hill, but have turned away interested teams. ESPN's Adam Schefter says that's not the case.
On Saturday morning, Schefter reported that not only do the Dolphins have no plans to trade Hill, they also "haven’t received any calls from other teams" about the receiver. That report came less than an hour after Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reiterated his previous reporting that the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs are interested in Hill. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler has also said that teams are "monitoring his future a little bit."
It's not much of a surprise that the trade wheels aren't turning -- at least, for now. There are a few significant hurdles in the way of a deal getting done.
For one, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel are seemingly hanging on by a thread and could both be fired sooner rather than later if the team continues to look like it did in Week 1. Trading away the team's No. 1 receiver in return for future draft capital probably isn't Grier's favorite idea.
The other big complication is the recent reveal of abuse allegations from Hill's estranged wife. Earlier this week, McDaniel told reporters that the Dolphins have been in communication with the NFL about the situation, leaving plenty of uncertainty about Hill's future.
More Dolphins losses and the end of the NFL's investigation could quickly make Hill a logical name to be dealt near the trade deadline. For now, though, it makes sense that the market isn't lively.
