NFL refs got Justin Fields’ ‘SkyCam’ throw in Week 5 vs Cowboys incorrect

The New York Jets are the only winless team through five weeks. While they can't get a do-over on their offseason or results to this point, they should've been granted one in Week 5.

Halfway through the first quarter, Justin Fields dropped back to pass – firing a screen pass in the direction of Breece Hall. There's only one problem though.

The ball clanked off the helmet of the Dallas Cowboys' Dante Fowler Jr., ricocheting into the air and off the "SkyCam" – right into your living room.

While the third-and-goal pass fell incomplete, it forced Aaron Glenn's team to settle for a field goal on their opening drive, giving New York the 3-0 lead.

However, the bizarre play that resulted in some laughs wasn't ruled properly on the field by the officials and the Jets should've been given a do-over.

Article 1 under Section 2 of Rule 7 in the NFL rulebook explains what should've happened:

"If a loose ball in play strikes a video board, guide wire, sky cam, or any other object, the ball will be dead immediately, and the down will be replayed at the previous spot."

The Jets ultimately went on to lose 37-22 on Sunday, but the potential four-point swing could've made a big impact. New York was moving the ball without much resistance on their opening drive against a defense that had been shredded early in the season.

Perhaps things play out differently if the Jets score a touchdown on the drive. Or maybe they don't.

We'll never know.
