Notre Dame football announces 12-year series with ACC rival Clemson

While Notre Dame is part of a the ACC for the majority of its other sports, football has continued to stay independent and on Tuesday morning the Irish have agreed to a 12-game football series starting in 2027 with the Clemson Tigers

The two teams have faced each other eight times according to Winsipedia.com, with the last one a Tigers win in 2023. The Irish won in 2022, and the teams split wins in the shortened 2020 season, with Clemson taking home the ACC title.

The Tigers had a three-game winning streak dating back to 1979 until 2018, as the Irish had won the first contest of the series in 1977. The two teams haven’t traditionally faced off against each other much, but that clearly is changing starting in a few years.

Anytime a series like this is announced, there is some significant juice to it, and this one fits that mold. Both teams look like they’ll continue battling it out for spots in the College Football Playoff field, and will have a marquee game on the schedule each year starting in 2027.
