Notre Dame Lands A Commitment From 2027 Linebacker Ellis McGaskin

Notre Dame Lands A Commitment From 2027 Linebacker Ellis McGaskin originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Notre Dame has kicked off its 2027 position player recruiting class by landing a commitment from linebacker Ellis McGaskin. The Mobile (Ala.) Williamson standout is the second player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2027 class but he's the first position player. Notre Dame beat out LSU, Georgia, Florida State, Auburn and Texas A&M among many others to land this talented defender.

McGaskin is a highly productive and talented linebacker that racked up an impressive 130 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, four sacks, four pass break ups and three forced fumbles as a sophomore. He dominated as a freshman as well, registering 142 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. McGaskin also rushed for 206 yards (5.6 YPC) and six touchdowns as a sophomore for Williamson. When you watch his film, McGaskin is always around the football and his numbers by the time he finishes his prep career will be incredibly good.

McGaskin is an athletic and instinctive linebacker. He's undersized at 6-1 and 200 pounds, but he packs a serious punch when he arrives at the football. McGaskin shows a great feel for the game, he makes quick reads and he explodes downhill. His short area quickness and power is as good as you'll see in the 2027 class. He's constantly around the football and is a highly disruptive defensive player. Landing a player like McGaskin - especially out of Alabama - is an outstanding way to start the 2027 defensive class.

The Williamson defender is ranked as the nation's No. 78 overall player in the country according to Rivals. He's also ranked as the No. 3 linebacker in the country.

McGaskin earned offers from the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, LSU, Oregon, Florida State, Florida, Michigan, Texas A&M, Miami (Fla.), Penn State, Tennessee, Nebraska, Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Missouri, South Carolina, SMU, Baylor, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and UCF.

McGaskin made his first trip to Notre Dame earlier this month and the Alabama linebacker came away impressed. His recruitment ended quickly and he becomes the first position player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2027 class. He joins North Carolina long snapper Sean Kraft to kick off the Notre Dame 2027 class.
