Official: Real Madrid dismiss reports of plans to hire new sporting director
Real Madrid have never been a club that tolerates speculation quietly and this time was no different.
Following a wave of reports in the Spanish media, the club has stepped forward to firmly shut down claims suggesting a major structural change behind the scenes.
Recent reports had indicated that Real Madrid were exploring the possibility of appointing a sporting director for the first time in years.
The idea gained traction quickly, with suggestions that the role could be introduced as early as next season as part of a wider evolution in the club’s management structure.
At present, the responsibilities typically associated with a sporting director are handled internally.
Much of that work falls under the control of Jose Angel Sanchez, the club’s general director and a long-standing trusted figure alongside president Florentino Perez.
Reports have been doing the rounds that Sanchez might finally close the curtain on his Real Madrid tenure.
Real Madrid deny
Given that context, the rumours naturally sparked debate. The club’s response, however, was emphatic.
In an official statement, Madrid directly addressed the claims circulating after a report aired on Cadena SER’s El Larguero, making it clear that there is no truth to the speculation.
“Real Madrid C. F. informs that the information broadcast by the program El Larguero on Cadena Ser last night, claiming that our club is considering adding a sporting director to its structure, is completely false.”
The club also took the opportunity to reinforce confidence in their current model, one that has delivered consistent success without the need for a traditional sporting director role.
“Real Madrid greatly values the work carried out by the club’s sporting management, which has allowed us to experience one of the most successful periods in our history, including the achievement of numerous titles, among them 6 European Cups in ten years,” read the statement.
Simply put, Real Madrid are effectively doubling down on a structure that has already proven its worth over the past decade.
From multiple Champions Leagues to sustained domestic dominance, the club see no immediate need to alter a formula that continues to deliver results.
