Osa or No-sir?? Reported Cowboys trade offer for Raiders Crosby vanishes

Before the NFL world goes bonkers at the beginning of the new league year, the Maxx Crosby situation had to come to a close. Talk all week has included discussion of the Cowboys offering a substantial amount to land the All-Pro edge player, and this time there was fire to the smoke of including Dallas in the media talk.

The quest is over, but the Cowboys made a valiant effort. The club went to the finish line in trying to acquire Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders, but in the end Dallas was not willing to offer what the Baltimore Ravens did, two first-round picks.

That doesn't mean that there wasn't an extensive effort made, but the question is now, how extensive?

Before the deal to the Raiders was announced, 105.3 The Fan, the radio home of the Cowboys tweeted reference to a source who indicated Dallas offered their No. 12 pick, a second-round pick in the 2027 draft, and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa as part of the trade package.. But that tweet from earlier has been wiped from existence.

Was it wrong, or was Odighizuwa's inclusion meant to be off the record?

Later in the evening, ESPN's Adam Schefter's tweet claims the Cowboys' top offer ended at the first and second round pick.

Rumors swirled that the Raiders were looking for two first-round draft picks along with a starting caliber player in any deal involving Crosby. The Cowboys proposed offer comes extremely close to the Raiders asking price.

If accepted, Dallas would still have had the 20th overall pick in this year's draft but because of previous trades, they wouldn't select again until the fourth-round.

As for Odighizuwa, who signed a four-year $80 million deal with $58 million in guarantees just over a year ago, his contract would be a large financial burden to go along with the addition of Crosby. Dallas would incur a $16 million cap hit but would gain $4.7 million in cap space.

Cowboys Wire had identified Odighizuwa as a key part of a trade proposal all the way back in December, and the move to a 3-4 defense where the former UCLA Bruin will move from 3-tech to 4i where he'll be responsible for a gap and a half does raise some fit concern in Christian Parker's new scheme.

From there, Dallas would need to create the cap space to absorb the Crosby contract which comes with a $30 million cap hit in 2026 that is fully guaranteed. They then would be able to restructure the contract to lower the hit, but they'd need to create the room before the trade became official.
