OU softball clinches SEC championship with Texas A&M loss vs Tennessee

NORMAN — In its first season in the league, the OU softball team has clinched the Southeastern Conference regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in next week’s SEC Tournament.
The Sooners officially clinched the title following Texas A&M’s 5-1 loss to Tennessee on Friday.
OU will open the tournament by playing the final game of the day next Thursday.
From 2012 to 2023, head coach Patty Gasso led the Sooners to 11 consecutive Big 12 regular-season titles. Now, in her first season coaching in the SEC, Gasso is back atop her league after finishing second to Texas last season in the Big 12.
Following its 6-5 win over Florida on Thursday, OU (43-5, 17-5 SEC) has won seven consecutive games.
The Sooners and Gators (41-13, 12-10) will play the second game of their three-game series at 5 p.m. Friday. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
