Pair of MSU hockey players named to preseason All-Big Ten first team
A pair of Michigan State Spartans have been named to the preseason All-Big Ten teams.
Michigan State hockey goaltender Trey Augustine and defenseman Matt Basgall were both named to the preseason All-Big Ten first team on Thursday afternoon. This should come as no surprise as both Augustine and Basgall are top players for the preseason Big Ten favorite Spartans.
Augustine is back for his third season at Michigan State, where he will look to even further improve upon his great career as a Spartan. Last season, Augustine was a Richter Award Finalist as the top netminder in Division I hockey and a goals against average of less than two across 45 games.
Basgall was a Second Team AHCA All-America selection last year, and is set to be the Spartans' captain this season. He is entering his senior season at Michigan State, and during his career he's appeared in 128 games, recording nine goals and 58 assists.
Michigan State hockey will open the 2025-26 season on October 9 in a two-game weekend series against New Hampshire.
