Panthers great Cam Newton calls out Geno Smith, coaches over wild jersey-stomping incident

7v7 tournaments never seem to be boring when Cam Newton is on hand.
The Carolina Panthers great recently addressed a tiny bit of controversy from last week's OT7 event in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., which pitted his C1N team against South Florida Express. Before the squads squared off, quite a few players from SLE tried to make a statement by stomping out Newton's Auburn jersey at midfield.
But the real statement was ultimately made by C1N . . .
Newton talked about the pregame shenanigans on the latest episode of 4th & 1 with Cam Newton, and brought Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith—a coach for SLE—into the conversation.
"My issue isn't with the kids. My issue is with the adult that allowed the kids to do it," he stated. "Now, I didn't know Geno Smith's involvement with South Florida Express prior to this week . . . but if the C1N had a Geno Smith jersey and they proceeded to stomp on it, I would've stopped it instantly. So when I see actions like this, there was an adult behind this and they allowed that. And that's what was most disrespectful about this whole situation."
Smith also garnered some attention that weekend after getting into a heated bout of trash talk with an apparent bystander . . .
Unfortunately for Newton and Smith, neither of their teams ended up hoisting the trophy. That honor belonged to Lo-PROspects, who are now the two-time champions of the event.
