Panthers HC Dave Canales is asked how many WRs will be on the initial roster

The message remains the same for the wideouts currently vying for a spot on the Carolina Panthers' initial 53-man roster.

Thursday night's 19-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers marked the end of the preseason for the Panthers, who will now have a few days to sort out their active roster for the fall. Following the outing, head coach Dave Canales was asked how they'll go about determining their crowded receiver room.

"Again, we've talked about this before—the special teams are gonna matter," Canales replied. "We preached it enough that when you're trying to make the last few spots, how many you keep in each room really depends on what you can do for us from a special teams standpoint—and that's something we have to consider for the wide receivers."

Carolina could go as deep as seven wide receivers—with first-round picks Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Legette, Adam Thielen and Jalen Coker among the surest to make the cut. David Moore, Hunter Renfrow, Jimmy Horn Jr. and Brycen Tremayne are, in some combination, likely to round out the bunch.

The Panthers will have until 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Aug. 26 to come to their 53-man group.
