The Carolina Panthers took a trip down memory lane to honor one of their former starting quarterbacks.
Cam Newton was the face of the Panthers' offense from 2011-19.
In 2015, Newton led Carolina to a Super Bowl appearance after being named NFL MVP for passing for 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns while rushing for 636 yards and 10 touchdowns. However, he could not lead the Panthers past the Denver Broncos, whose defense held him to 265 passing yards and zero touchdowns as his team lost 24-10.
Newton continued to play in Carolina until his season-ending injury in the early 2019 season before taking his talents to the New England Patriots in 2020, where he spent one season. He then returned to the Panthers in 2021 under a one-year deal and played eight games.
Newton would not sign a new deal with any of the 32 NFL franchises as he remains a free agent. However, on Saturday, the Panthers posted a montage of Newton on X in honor of the new “Superman” film, which was released in theaters on Friday.
“We heard Superman is back on the big screen,” the team wrote.

The short statement comes as Newton was nicknamed “SuperCam” by fans because of his signature touchdown celebration, where he mimicked the Man of Steel ripping off his shirt to show off the Superman logo. Meanwhile, “Superman” features actors such as David Cornswet (Superman), Nicholas Holt (Lex Luthor) and Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern).
The film has received an 82% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.7/10 from IMDb.
