Panthers trade up again on Day 2, draft EDGE Princely Umanmielen with 77th overall pick
The Carolina Panthers have jumped up once again here on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL draft.
A second trade this evening, this time with the New England Patriots, has catapulted the Panthers eight spots in the third round. The deal saw Carolina send the 85th and 146th (fifth round) overall picks to New England in exchange for the 77th overall pick—which they proceeded to use on University of Mississippi edge defender Princely Umanmielen.
Umanmielen, now the second pass rusher taken by the Panthers on the night, is coming off a 10.5-sack campaign for the Rebels. His performance earned him a first-team All-SEC selection.
Prior to the 2024 season, the 6-foot-4, 244-pounder amassed 15.0 sacks over four years at the University of Florida.
Carolina, a round earlier, traded up to the 51st overall spot for fellow edge rusher Nic Scourton in a swap with the Denver Broncos.
