Pat Surtain and Nik Bonitto react to Bo Nix injury, back Jarrett Stidham
The Denver Broncos as a whole have completely rallied around quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the week since head coach Sean Payton announced Bo Nix would miss the remainder of the season with a broken ankle.
Broncos stars Pat Surtain and Nik Bonitto got together on Surtain's "Closed on Sundays" podcast earlier this week to talk about the impact of Nix's loss, as well as how they feel about Stidham.
"After the game, you got all the emotions running," said Surtain. "We just came off a big victory, feeling good, the energy's good, and then I heard the news about Bo, and my heart just dropped."
Nik Bonitto had a front-row seat to the chaos that was unfolding inside the bowels of Empower Field at Mile High. "Usually I go in, because I got my injuries myself, and I go in the training room, and I knew it was kind of a little serious, 'cuz I seen all the trainers and stuff around him," recalled Bonitto. "That don't really ever happen with nobody... I was going back to the locker room and I see a bunch of guys, (Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton), Stiddy, a bunch of the other guys just all around him. Coaches were around him and stuff, so I knew it was pretty serious."
After talking about Nix, Surtain and Bonitto immediately turned to the man starting the AFC Championship: Jarrett Stidham. "We got all the trust in Stiddy to make things work," said Surtain. "He's got a lot of confidence to him... I think he's prepared for the moment."
Stidham looks to lead the Broncos into the Super Bowl. First, he has to get through the Patriots on Sunday.
Sunday's game (1:00 p.m. MT) will be nationally televised on CBS (more TV info).
