Patriots reportedly signing son of Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver

The New England Patriots signed former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Brenden Rice to the practice squad on Tuesday. This was reported by Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz.

Rice, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, was a 2024 seventh-round draft pick out of USC. He appeared in only three games for the Chargers as a rookie and was ultimately cut ahead of his Year 2 season in training camp back in August.

This comes as the Patriots are looking to fill out their roster depth. Rice is a big-bodied receiver with untapped talent that the Patriots will try to develop further behind the scenes.

The connection with Jerry Rice makes this one of the more fun moves the Patriots have made in recent memory.

With that said, Brenden Rice has a mountain to climb in learning the offense and competing with a Patriots wide receivers group that has proven to be much better than expected.
