Paul Skenes Decimates Philadelphia in 2-1 Win

Paul Skenes has been on fire to start the 2025 MLB season, and Sunday was just another chapter to the story.
Despite a 4-6 record on the year, the National League Cy Young favorite boasts a 1.88 ERA and just absolutely dominated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday night.
Skenes got his 14th start of the season on Sunday against one of the better teams in the National League, and he lit them up, throwing 7.2 innings where he didn't give up a single earned run and allowed just two hits. However, since he left when the game was tied at one, he was not credited with the win.
We've seen plenty of performances like this from Skenes this season. In his 14 starts, he's given up a combined 19 earned runs, five of which came in one game. If you remove that outing, he's given up 14 runs in 13 games.
It has now been over a month since Skenes has given up multiple earned runs in a single outing. In his final four games in May, Skenes gave up one run three times and zero runs once. To start June, he's allowed one run to Houston and zero runs to Philadelphia. Despite those numbers, Skenes is 1-2 during that stretch.
The Pirates organization has done Skenes no favors this season. They haven't surrounded him with enough talent offensively to help him win games. I mean, the guy has a 1.88 ERA and is 4-6 on the season. That should be impossible. In his six losses, he's given up five, two, three, two, one and one runs. In each of his four wins, he's held his opponents to zero runs.
Skenes continues to deal despite the Pirates' poor play. I'm very glad to see people are looking past his record when it comes to the Cy Young Award. He's been arguably the best pitcher in baseball this season, and a 4-6 record shouldn't stop him from winning the award.
