Philip Rivers coached St. Michael No. 1 in Alabama poll for first time in school history

St. Michael Catholic High School, the team coached by former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers and quarterbacked by his son, Gunner Rivers, is ranked No. 1 in the Alabama Sports Writers Association football rankings. It is the first time in school history it has received the top rankings, according to al.com.

At 6-0, St. Michael topped the Class 4A rankings, with 213 poll points, well ahead of No. 2 Jackson’s 147 poll points. That makes perfect sense, as St. Michael topped Jackson this past Friday, 49-39.

St. Michael has scored over 40 points in every game this year, and scored 56 points in two of the past three weeks. It is at home against Mobile Christian on Friday.

Gunner Rivers has thrown for 1,409 yards and 26 touchdowns on the season.
