Pontiac splits four games at Washington tournament
Pontiac finished the competitive Washington softball tournament with a 2-2 mark over the weekend, including a 4-3 setback in the finale on Saturday.
The host Panthers took the last game after outscoring the Tribe 3-2 in the last inning. The game was tied at 1-1 entering the inning.
Payton Rogers singled with one out in the PTHS sixth that drove in Kendall Pitchford and Tessa Collins. Rogers was left stranded on second base with the tying run.
Pitchford had two hits, including a double, and India Mattingly had a two-base hit and RBI for Pontiac (10-3). Rogers had a hit and two RBIs while Liv Lindsay, Collins and Izzy Hinz each singled.
Rogers took the loss in relief, striking out one. Natalie Zimmerman started and fanned one.
Pontiac 3, East Moline 2 – At Washington, Elena Krause allowed two hits and struck out nine in a win over East Moline on Saturday. Krause helped her cause with a triple and double.
Nevaeh Vogt had a double, single and RBI while Kendall Pitchford had two hits and drove in a run. Collins and Lindsay each singled.
Kaneland 4, Pontiac 0 – At Washington, Pontiac suffered a loss as Kaneland topped the Tribe in pool play on Friday. Natalie Zimmerman took the loss in the circle. She struck out six. Rogers finished up, fanning one.
The Tribe managed three hits as Elena Krause, Nevaeh Vogt and Alexis Legner each singled.
Pontiac 8, U-High 1 – At Washington, Elena Krause homered, drove in three runs and fanned seven in the circle as Pontiac opened pool play with a victory over Normal (U-High) on Friday. Krause had a three-run homer in the second inning after walking and scoring in the first.
Krause had two hits and three RBIs while Liv Lindsay had a hit and two RBIs. Kendall Pitchford tripled and plated a run while Tessa Collins singled and drove in a run. Izzy Hinz singled.
Peotone 12, Dwight 0 – At Dwight, the Trojans completed a tough week with a nonconference loss to Peotone on Friday. Madi Ely took the loss in the circle after striking out eight. Sarah Parker had a double for the lone Dwight (3-10) base hit.
Thursday
Prairie Central 9, Rantoul 1 – At Rantoul, Kyah Creek, Sam Slagel and Jules Woodrey led Prairie Central’s offense in an Illini Prairie Conference victory over host Rantoul on April 18. Faith Fields was the beneficiary as she got the win in the circle. Fields struck out seven before Dixie Hogan pitched the seventh to end the game.
Slagel belted a home run and added a single while driving in three runs for the Hawks (10-10). Woodrey had two hits and three RBIs, Creek had a triple and double with a run batted in while Lily Kilgus and Rylee Galloway each had a double and RBI.
Pontiac 7, Herscher 0 – At Herscher, Elena Krause was overpowering as she dominated in a nonconference win over Herscher on April 16. Krause struck out 18 and allowed one hit.
Krause had three hits and drove in a run to lead the offense. Natalie Zimmerman had a hit and two RBIs while Tessa Collins had a hit and RBI.
Serena 15, Dwight 1 – At Serena, the Huskers scored often early in routing Dwight in a nonconference tilt on April 16. Averi Jury took the loss in the circle and scored the lone DTHS run.
Madi Ely had a double and RBI while Miranda Bovelle and Mckenna Woodcock each singled.
Henry-Senachwine 6, Dwight 4 – At Dwight, the host Trojans rallied late but came up short in falling to Henry-Senachwine in a Tri-County Conference game on April 15. Madi Ely took the loss and struck out seven.
Averi Jury had a home run, a double and drove in two runs for DTHS. Sarah Parker and Wilson each had a hit and RBI. Ely and Mckenna Woodcock each singled.
Notre Dame 3, Prairie Central 1 – At Peoria, Prairie Central outhit Peoria (Notre Dame), but the Irish outscored the Hawks in a nonconference game on April 15. Dixie Hogan struck out six while taking the loss.
Kyah Creek had three hits and Rylee Galloway collected a double and single. Jules Woodrey had a hit and drove in the Hawks’ only run.
Pontiac 15, Rantoul 4 – At Pontiac, the Tribe scored in each of the four innings it batted in an Illini Prairie Conference rout of Rantoul on April 14. Krause fanned seven in three innings to notch the victory. Natalie Zimmerman struck out four in relief.
India Mattingly had a pair of doubles, a single and drove in four runs for PTHS. Krause had two hits and three RBIs and Zimmerman had two hits and two RBIs. Liv Lindsay singled and plated three runs.
BCC 4, Prairie Central 3 – At Fairbury, Central Catholic scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to force an extra inning, then scored in the eighth for the Illini Prairie Conference win over the Hawks on April 14. Faith Fields recorded 14 strikeouts but was saddled with the loss.
Sam Slagel had a home run, double and single while driving in three runs for the Hawks, who led 3-1 heading into the sixth inning.
