Quentin Lake sees 'big differences' between Puka Nacua and Davante Adams – in a good way

Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp were viewed as similar types of players for the last two years, being versatile slot guys who can block, line up inside, make plays downfield and win over the middle. The Los Angeles Rams cut ties with Kupp this offseason and replaced him with someone with a different skill set.

Davante Adams comes to the Rams as a true X-receiver who wins one-on-one matchups with releases and route running and can still create big plays. It’s a nice blend of talent at wide receiver with Adams and Nacua, which Matthew Stafford should be really happy about.

Rich Eisen asked Quentin Lake if the Rams’ receiver duo is the best in the NFL and he thinks it’s near the top because of how different Nacua and Adams are.

“I think it’s up there. I truly believe so because you have two receivers who give you big differences,” Lake said. “Puka is young, got a lot of energy and he’s strong. People don’t understand, Puka, pound for pound, is probably one of the strongest receivers in the NFL. He’s faster than you think, he’s stronger than you think and he has really good feet. And obviously has really good hands.

“And then moving on to Davante, you have a guy who hasn’t lost a step, is super athletic. I saw how high he jumped to get a ball in practice and I said, ‘He could do a windmill dunk if he wanted to. And it does it all the time in his celebrations.

“These are guys that have not only perfected their craft – obviously, Puka is still learning – but it is a force to be reckoned with.”

Adams is 32 but he’s still plenty fast and athletic to remain a top receiver in the NFL. Nacua, on the other hand, is only entering his third season and continues to get better.

The Rams didn’t create enough big plays on offense last season but with a healthy Nacua and a rejuvenated Adams, there’s a lot to be excited about with this receiving corps.
