Raiders Fans React to Charles Woodson Announcement
There were rumors that NFL Hall of Famer Charles Woodson was nearing a deal to buy a stake in the Cleveland Browns, but now it's official. The team announced on Tuesday that Woodson has become a limited partner in the franchise.
Woodson did not play for the Browns during his NFL career, but he's from Ohio, so he couldn't turn down the chance to because a part owner of a team that's so important to his home state.
"Growing up in Fremont, Ohio, it was a dream come true to play in the National Football League," Woodson said in a statement. "In my wildest childhood dreams, I never considered the opportunity to become a limited partner of an NFL team, let alone the Cleveland Browns in my home state of Ohio. It is among my greatest honors to join the Haslam and Johnson families and the entire Haslam Sports Group to become a limited partner of the Cleveland Browns, one of the NFL's most storied franchises."
While this is an exciting day for Woodson and the Browns, Raiders fans aren't as excited. The Hall of Famer is one of the most popular Raiders to play in the 2000s. Some fans don't love the idea of him being part of the Browns going forward.
"This feels so wrong," one Raiders fan wrote.
"Why not the Raiders? That’s who he should have gotten involved with," a fan commented.
"Good for CWood! NGL, kinda wish he was part of the Raiders ownership group," another fan commented.
Others are happy to see Woodson become one of the few former players to get into ownership.
"Well deserved! Good to see NFL guys in ownership," another fan wrote.
