Rams' Aubrey Pleasant has DC interview with Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals have not named a defensive coordinator, but they took a step forward toward hiring one on Monday. According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals interviewed Los Angeles Rams assistant head coach and pass game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant for the job on Monday.

Pleasant had two interviews scheduled, one with the Cardinals and one with the Cleveland Browns.

This potentially means that as soon as Tuesday, there could be a report that the Cardinals have made a decision.

Pleasant is one of two known candidates left. The Cardinals requested an interview with Charlie Bullen of the New York Giants. Houston Texans defensive backs coach Dino Vasso, another requested interview, backed out of all DC consideration for any team, as he returned to Houston on a contract extension.

Nick Rallis, the DC for the Cardinals the last three seasons, is presumably part of the process, too, as he has not landed elsewhere yet.

Many consider Pleasant the favorite for the Cardinals because of his time together with LaFleur on the Rams.

But the Browns are believed to be very interested, too, although the Browns are expected to keep the same defensive system they had under Jim Schwartz. Schwartz resigned from the position after Todd Monken was hired as their new head coach. Schwartz was also a candidate for the job.

We will see if a report or an announcement comes Tuesday, or if we must wait a bit longer for the Cardinals to finish their process.
