Rams don't have a single player whose salary is in the top 10 at their position
There’s been a dramatic shift in the roster-building philosophy from the Los Angeles Rams. During Sean McVay’s early years, they aggressively pursued a Super Bowl by trading draft picks for proven veterans, while also making several splashes in free agency.
Since 2023, however, they’ve focused more of their attention on adding through the draft. That accomplishes two goals: It makes the team younger (and hungrier) and makes the salary cap easier to manage.
Looking at the Rams’ roster heading into 2025, it’s devoid of overly high-priced players with the exception of Matthew Stafford. Pending his extension being finalized, Stafford and Davante Adams are the only players on the team making more than $20 million per year.
Jason Fitzgerald of Over The Cap pointed out Tuesday that the Rams and Seahawks are the only two teams in the NFL without a single player in the top 10 in annual salary at their position.
The Eagles lead the NFL with 9 players who rank in the top 10 in salary at their position. Lions, Packers, and Vikings are next with 7.

Stafford’s current deal is for $40 million per year, which is 15th among all quarterbacks. In order for him to crack the top 10 on his new deal, it’ll have to pay him at least $51 million per year. We’ll see if that’s the case when it’s finalized.
The only player who comes close to the top 10 at their position is Kevin Dotson, who’s 11th among all guards with a salary of $16 million per year. That’s some savvy financial work by the Rams.
Again, this could change once Stafford’s deal is signed but as of now, the Rams have done a nice job supplementing their roster with young, cheap talent to go with some proven veterans on each side of the ball.
