Rams WR named a breakout player for 2025 season
The Los Angeles Rams returned relatively the same roster they had in 2024, with a few alterations from free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft. So, for the most part, the Rams will play the usual suspects this season.
That leaves only a few true options for breakout performances in 2025. And while some emerging names from the 2024 season could find themselves in bigger roles this year (like linebacker Omar Speights), SB Nation's Joseph Acosta picked a late-round 2025 rookie for the Rams' breakout player this year: Seventh-rounder Konata Mumpfield.
I try to stay away from rookies in this exercise, but I’m a big believer in Mumpfield and how his play can elevate the Rams offense. Los Angeles desperately needs speed they can trust in the receiver room, and Mumpfield brings separation skills and burst from the slot in ways that I don’t think WR Tutu Atwell consistently can. Mumpfield is a great complement to WRs Davante Adams and Puka Nacua in where and how he wins, and can help the offense be much more explosive.
This is an intriguing pick considering Mumpfield will likely begin his career fifth on the receiver depth chart behind Adams, Nacua, Atwell and Jordan Whittington. However, Mumpfield was picked as a great fit for the Sean McVay offense before the Rams drafted him and the rookie noted that he watched a lot of Adams during his early football career.
Mumpfield would need a role to break out, though, and that will be tough sledding early on. Nacua and Adams are locked in as key contributors on the offense. Matthew Stafford will also likely look toward tight ends Tyler Higbee and fellow rookie Terrance Ferguson, as well as running back Kyren Williams.
But anything can happen in a season, and Mumpfield's makeup of work is a good indicator of what he can do at the next level if he gets the opportunity.
