Range Riders KO'd again Wednesday
Jun. 12—MARYSVILLE, Calif. — A pitcher's duel in Northern California ended with the Range Riders dropping their second straight game in a knockout round Wednesday against the Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers.
In the extra at bats, Efrain Manzo hit a pair of homers for Glacier (8-12) but was bested by Cuba Bess for Yuba-Sutter. Bess picked up four outs initially before crushing three out of the park to secure the win for the High Wheelers (13-7).
Matthew Kavanaugh went six strong innings for the Yuba-Sutter, allowing the only two Glacier hits of the evening and striking out four. Mason Bryant and Ethan Bates combined for three no-hit innings in relief, both fanning two. Bryant issued one walk in his two innings, while Bates didn't allow a baserunner in one inning.
Ty Bothwell was hot on the mound for Glacier, striking out 11 batters and only allowing four hits in 7 2-3 innings. Bothwell took over the Pioneer Leagues lead in strikeouts, with 34. He walked a pair.
Jason Franks and Cam Cowan each allowed a hit in their relief efforts, with Cowan fanning three in one inning of work.
At the plate, Xavier Casserilla and Logan Beard picked up hits for Glacier.
Josh Duarte reached base four times for the High Wheelers, going 2-for-2 hitting and picking up a pair of walks.
