Ranking Texas A&M football's remaining 9 opponents from easiest to toughest

The thing about early-season games is that it's difficult to gauge how good a team truly is. Unless a team competes against another on an equal playing field, it's essentially all just guesswork. However, one aspect we can evaluate is how effectively they execute their game plan and identify what needs refinement before diving into the heart of their schedule.

While last year appeared relatively open across the SEC, by the time we approached the season’s conclusion, it became evident that Texas and Georgia were the premier teams in the conference. Through three weeks, Georgia earns the benefit of the doubt, but several teams show promise, and we’ll have to see who can endure the grind of the SEC schedule and emerge as the top contender.

With nine regular-season games remaining, here’s a ranking of Texas A&M’s opponents from easiest to most challenging, based on current performance and momentum:

9. Texas A&M vs. Samford - Week 11

Sep 7, 2024; Gainesville, Florida, USA; Samford Bulldogs quarterback Connor Masters (19) and Samford Bulldogs running back Ken Cherry (22) wait for a play call against the Gators during the second half at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

2025 record: 0-3

Analysis: Samford has been outscored 116-23 over three games and is projected to lose their next matchup as well. Until this game is played, they remain the least formidable team on the schedule.

8. Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State - Week 5

Sep 6, 2025; Starkville, Mississippi, USA; Mississippi State Bulldogs offensive lineman Albert Reese IV (76) and offensive lineman Zack Owens (52) wait for the snap during the second quarter against the Arizona State Sun Devils at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field.

2025 record: 2-1

Analysis: The Bulldogs' most impressive victory through Week 3 was their 24-20 win over Arizona State. They need to face stronger competition soon to determine whether they’ll pose a legitimate challenge to the Aggies in the coming weeks.

7. Texas A&M vs. South Carolina - Week 10

Sep 6, 2025; Columbia, South Carolina, USA; South Carolina Gamecocks defensive back Vicari Swain (4) celebrates his second punt return touchdown against the South Carolina State Bulldogs in the second quarter at Williams-Brice Stadium.

2025 record: 2-1

Analysis: The Gamecocks endured a rough outing against Vanderbilt, suffering a 31-7 blowout, and quarterback LaNorris Sellers was forced out of the game. South Carolina is currently difficult to assess, and we’ll see how they respond following their matchup with Kentucky.

6. Texas A&M at Arkansas - Week 7

Sep 6, 2025; Little Rock, Arkansas, USA; Arkansas Razorbacks linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr. (10) celebrates after an interception during the first quarter against the Arkansas State Red Wolves at War Memorial Stadium. Arkansas won 56-14.

2025 record: 2-1

Analysis: Arkansas dropped its first game of the season to Ole Miss. While they managed to score 31 points, they surrendered 41, and their defense may struggle to contain the Aggie offense. Taylen Green continues to prove he’s one of the nation’s top dual-threat quarterbacks, but will that be enough to keep pace with A&M?

5. Texas A&M vs. Florida - Week 6

2025 record: 1-2

Analysis: Florida is considered a tougher matchup than Arkansas solely due to scheduling. There’s considerable dysfunction in Gainesville right now, and the Gators are desperate for a statement win.

4. Texas A&M at Missouri - Week 9

Sep 6, 2025; Columbia, Missouri, USA; Missouri Tigers running back Jamal Roberts (20) celebrates with tight end Jordon Harris (86) after scoring a touchdown during the fourth quarter against the Kansas Jayhawks at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images

2025 record: 3-0

Analysis: Missouri remains undefeated following a 52-10 rout of Louisiana. However, they’ve yet to face a ranked opponent, and concerns linger about their defensive reliability against explosive offenses.

4. Texas A&M vs. Auburn - Week 4

Auburn Tigers running back Jeremiah Cobb (23) breaks free for a touchdown run as Auburn Tigers take on Ball State Cardinals at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala. on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025. Auburn Tigers defeated Ball State Cardinals 42-3.

2025 record: 3-0

Analysis: Auburn is the ultimate enigma at the moment. Their offensive scheme can pose significant challenges for the Aggies, but we haven’t seen it tested against a team capable of scoring prolifically. Their upcoming clash with Heisman front-runner John Mateer and the Oklahoma Sooners will be telling.

2. Texas A&M at Texas - Week 12

Sep 6, 2025; Austin, Texas, USA; Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian leads players on to the field before the game against the San Jose State Spartans at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Scott Wachter-Imagn Images

2025 record: 2-1

Analysis: The Texas offense appears out of sync, and that’s something they’ll need to resolve quickly. They benefit from a favorable schedule and boast an elite defense that will keep them competitive in every game. However, through three weeks, it seems some Texas fans owe Quinn Ewers an apology.

1. Texas A&M at LSU - Week 8

Tigers Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier 18 hands off to JuJuan Johnson 8, LSU Tigers take on the Louisiana Tech. Sept 6, 2025; Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA; at Tiger Stadium.

2025 record: 3-0

Analysis: LSU remains the most formidable opponent, and that status isn’t likely to change soon. Their defense rivals Texas’s in quality, but their offense hasn’t performed at the level required to contend for an SEC title. Winning on the road in Baton Rouge has historically been a daunting challenge for the Aggies.
