Real Madrid defender loses his ‘untouchable’ status after warning from club

At Real Madrid, status can change quickly, and right now, Alvaro Carreras is learning that the hard way.

Not too long ago, the Spanish full-back looked like a guaranteed starter, a player the club trusted as part of its long-term defensive setup. But things have shifted in recent weeks.

According to recent reports from Ok Diario, Carreras is no longer considered “untouchable” within the squad. 

Instead, he has been warned to refocus and raise his level if he wants to secure his place again, and this is not just about what happens on the pitch.

What’s the story?

There is growing concern inside the club regarding aspects of his behaviour off it. 

While details remain internal, the perception is that his current approach does not fully align with what is expected from a Real Madrid first-team player, especially one who arrived with a €50 million price tag.

“He has adopted certain habits unbecoming of a first-team player. Some also perceive him as overly arrogant lately,” says the report.

That expectation brings pressure, as Carreras recently returned from a calf injury, but his absence from the starting lineup against Manchester City raised eyebrows. 

From the outside, it might have seemed like a fitness decision, but the situation appears more complex.

Because at the same time, competition for his position has intensified.

Real Madrid have options

Fran Garcia has stepped up, delivering consistent performances and showing the kind of professionalism that coaches value. 

His reliability has not gone unnoticed, and he is now in contention for a regular starting role.

Then there is Ferland Mendy. When fit, he offers a very different profile. His presence alone ensures that no one in that position can afford to relax.

That leaves Carreras in a difficult position, as he is no longer the automatic choice. Rather, he is part of a battle.
