‘Real Madrid had their usual luck’ – Joan Laporta fumes at late winner against Celta Vigo
Joan Laporta has expressed his frustration at seeing Real Madrid close the gap on Barcelona at the top of the table thanks to a late win over Celta Vigo on Friday night.
Federico Valverde made it 2-1 to the visitors in the fifth minute of stoppage time, but there was plenty of controversy about his deflected strike.
Celta Vigo were angered by the decision not to award a free-kick for a foul on Fer López in the build-up to the goal, and Laporta feels that Los Blancos got lucky.
“Madrid won because of a foul that would have been called against us,” he said, per Mundo Deportivo. “Madrid had their usual luck yesterday.”
Celta boss Claudio Giraldez made it clear what he thought after the game, telling reporters: “The foul on Fer, he goes in with both legs, takes him down. There is an action that deserves a yellow card, and the mistake is clear.”
The win means Real Madrid are just one point behind Barcelona again, but Hansi Flick’s side can extend their lead tonight with a win over Athletic Club.
