It is no surprise that Lionel Messi is a superstar player that Inter Miami and the MLS refuse to let go of anytime soon. The Argentine player is one of the greatest soccer players of all time.
Messi will turn 38 on June 24, and his career is nearly ending. His contract with Inter Miami expires at the end of the 2025 MLS season.
It officially expires on December 31, 2025, and the club was hopeful before the start of this year that Messi would renew his contract until 2026. Last month, Inter Miami was undergoing poor results on the pitch under Javier Mascherano.
Due to the poor results and questions on when Messi would extend his contract, reports suggested that the player paused contract talks as there was no agreement. Many suggested the player would not consider extending his stay at Miami past 2025, but things have improved.
Lionel Messi Wants to Stay at Inter Miami
Cristian Camiño from TNT Sports Argentina reports that the contract negotiations for Messi to stay past 2025 are progressing well. Messi and his family are happy living in Miami, which is a huge factor for him to consider renewing his contract.

Messi is also reportedly satisfied with the project Inter Miami proposes. The club is looking to improve the squad and aspire to win trophies, which is also a fundamental factor in convincing the player to stay.
Inter Miami and the MLS are reportedly finalizing details to proceed with Messi's signature. More news on the extended contract is expected by next month.
Inter Miami may plan to announce Messi's contract renewal around the end of July. By then, the FIFA Club World Cup will be over, and Inter Miami will continue to play the rest of the 2025 MLS season.
