Report: LSU football close to hiring Lane Kiffin as head coach
LSU football is close to winning the Lane Kiffin sweepstakes as the Tigers look to fill their head coaching vacancy.
Yahoo's Ross Dellenger, in a post on social media, said LSU and Kiffin continued to work on the deal after LSU's game vs. Oklahoma. LSU is sending planes to pick up Kiffin and company on Sunday.
Update: LSU executives and Lane Kiffin's reps held a call after the Tigers game at OU to continue solidifying the deal with travel plans: The university is sending two planes to Oxford on Sunday for Kiffin, his family & others, sources tell @YahooSports.https://t.co/rKDHmY8JwPhttps://t.co/VgKewdoEFZ— Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger) November 30, 2025
Kiffin is the hottest name of the 2025-26 coaching carousel. Kiffin just led Ole Miss to its third straight double-digit win season -- the first time that's ever happened in Oxford.
Kiffin has the Rebels at 11-1 and on the verge of a College Football Playoff birth, but if he closes the deal with LSU, Kiffin probably won't be Ole Miss's coach on a potential playoff run.
LSU wasn't alone in its desire for Kiffin. Kiffin was the No. 1 priority for Florida and Ole Miss went all out to keep him. The saga dragged on in recent days as all sides pushed Kiffin to make a decision. It appears we're inching closer to a resolution now.
Kiffin and LSU's mutual interest became clear when members of the Kiffin camp visited Baton Rouge earlier this week.
Kiffin, 50, earned his first head coaching chance with the Raiders in the 2000s. Kiffin was fired, which led him back to the college ranks. He was the head coach of Tennessee, USC, and FAU prior to arriving at Ole Miss. He spent time on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama, helping to modernize the Crimson Tide offense as Saban's playcaller.
