Report: Nets potentially part of 7-team trade involving Kevin Durant

The Brooklyn Nets made one of the most shocking moves in the 2025 NBA offseason when they traded forward Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets for forward Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick. While it seemed like Brooklyn would be done with making trades after trading Johnson away, there is a report implying that the Nets are still trying to make moves.

"League sources tell The Athletic that the Rockets and Suns are working on expanding the Kevin Durant trade into a deal that would involve a league-record seven teams," The Athletic's Fred Katz reported on Wednesday. ESPN's Shams Charania reported in June that the Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets came to a deal sending Durant to the Rockets, but The Athletic's Kelly Iko also reported on Wednesday that the trade could be expanded.

"Other teams involved in negotiations at the moment include the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves, league sources say," Katz continued in his report on the Nets potentially being involved in the Durant deal if its expanded. "No trade is imminent, and details are being ironed out as of Wednesday night."

Based on the reports from Katz and Iko, it seems like the Durant trade could be expanded in some way to allow other teams to get something out of the blockbuster. There are some around the NBA that believe that Phoenix could be looking for a third team to reroute guard Jalen Green to, a solid reason why the deal is rumored to be expanded given all of the moving pieces.

As of this writing, Brooklyn has been involved in two trades since the offseason began: the multi-team trade with the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics that gave the Nets the 22nd overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft (turned into guard Drake Powell) and forward Terance Mann and the aforementioned trade with the Nuggets to get Porter. It's unknown what Brooklyn would get from being involved in the Durant trade so time will tell if it ends up being worth it.
