Report: Rams aren't 'banging down the doors' to trade for Jalen Ramsey

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel took a page out of the book of coach speak on Wednesday when he was asked about Jalen Ramsey’s future with the team, saying “zero has changed” since the last time he spoke about it and expressing a desire to only focus on the players participating in practice.

Ramsey appears to be counting down the days until June 1 when a trade becomes much more likely for salary cap reasons, but there’s been no movement from any team around the league – including the Los Angeles Rams.

While Sean McVay and Les Snead confirmed the Rams are interested in a reunion with Ramsey, ESPN’s Peter Schrager tempered expectations on the subject. Schrager reiterated that Ramsey’s contract is the issue and said he doesn’t believe the Rams are making a strong push to trade for him.

“Everyone just assumes the Rams because he played there,” he said. “I don't get the feeling that the Rams are banging down the doors for the Miami Dolphins to trade them Jalen Ramsey so they can pay him $16-17 million this year as a corner. I think there is a better chance he is traded than him being on there on the team but I don’t have a list of teams that make sense at the moment, just because of the salary and also because of this time of year. Usually it’ll heat up more toward training camp.”

The Rams do make the most sense as a landing spot for Ramsey, given their ties to the All-Pro cornerback and his love for the city of Los Angeles. He’s looking to play for a contender again and given the success he had in the Rams’ defensive scheme, it’s a perfect match.

It’ll just come down to whether Los Angeles is comfortable paying him $16 million-plus this year and giving up a draft pick or two to acquire him.
