REPORT: Steelers could consider trade for QB Kirk Cousins
Just one day from the start of the 2025 NFL draft and we still have no idea what the Pittsburgh Steelers are thinking. Most of the NFL world has penciled in a quarterback for the Steelers in the first round with former Colorado star Shedeur Sanders the popular choice.
But according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Steelers are reportedly one of the teams looking to add Atlanta Falcons veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins via trade. This could be in response to the comments by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, making it seem like he has no real interest in playing for the Steelers.
Another potential impact of this would be on the trade itself. Working a deal for Cousins would cost the team even more draft picks. Pittsburgh already traded its third-round pick away for wide receiver DK Metcalf and would have to give up more for Cousins. This could take a rookie quarterback off the board completely, as the remaining picks would need to be earmarked for other positions of greater need.
The Steelers, Browns and possibly Vikings could be involved in a trade involving Kirk Cousins, sources say.
Minnesota is looked at as the least likely scenario, given their preference to favor J.J. McCarthy, and Cousins would need to sign off on any deal he's involved in.… pic.twitter.com/HGxVeNsbFC— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) April 23, 2025
