Reports: Götze dropped from Frankfurt squad by Riera

According to consistent reports from Hessenschau and BILD, head coach Albert Riera has omitted Götze from the squad for Sunday’s Rhein-Main derby against Mainz.

Crucially, the decision does not appear to be injury-related. The 33-year-old is reportedly fully fit, meaning his exclusion is based purely on sporting reasons. Götze had already remained an unused substitute in Frankfurt’s previous two matches, but this latest development marks a further step, with the midfielder now left out of the squad entirely.

The 2014 World Cup winner is said to have been surprised by the decision.

With Götze’s contract set to expire this summer, the situation could also cast fresh doubt over ongoing extension talks, which had previously been reported to be at an advanced stage.
