Ribbon cutting ceremony at youth sports complex

GREENSBURG – Friday, April 11, the Greensburg Decatur County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting at the recently renovated Youth Sports Complex at City Park.

Chamber Executive Director Dawn Lowe greeted the assemblage before giving the microphone to Decatur County Parks and Rec Sports Coordinator Rob DeHoff.

DeHoff has worked since July 2024 planning, putting together the funding, and preparing the way for the nearly $1.5 million project. He thanked the attendees and spoke about the genesis of the project.

“When somebody has a dream and a goal, it’s awesome to see it put in motion,” he said.

He then thanked the various organizations he worked with on this project including Decatur County Parks and Rec Executive Director Theresa Kovacich, Parks and Rec employees Adam Bruner and Jody Biddinger and members of the Parks and Rec board of directors.

Parks and Rec Board President Victor Dance offered thanks to the many players involved in the project as well.

DeHoff also thanked Schutte Excavating for their participation in the improvement effort.

Jason Kleber from the United States Specialty Sports Association added his thoughts about the value of turf to the tourism industry in the county and commending the project partnership by saying, “This is looking really good!”

Greensburg Mayor Joshua Marsh also spoke: “It was a great facility, but it’s even better now and I congratulate all those involved in this.”

Visit Greensburg Executive Director Erica Gunn shared her thanks and excitement about the ability to offer the state of the art facility to the community, county, and all the players who will enjoy the facility improvements.

Decatur County Redevelopment Commission’s Don Schilling and Commissioner Jeremy Pasel then offered their thanks prior to the ribbon cutting taking place.
