Rory McIlory Sends Message to Wife, Family Before PGA Championship

After earning his first-ever Green jacket at the Masters last month, Rory McIlroy became the sixth men's golfer to complete a career Grand Slam.

Before the first round of the 107th PGA Championship starts on May 15, the Northern Irish golfer told reporters he struggles to watch video of himself falling to his knees after sinking that final 4-foot putt in Augusta.

"Anytime I have, I well up," McIlroy said. "I still feel like I want to cry... I've never felt a release like that before, and I might never feel a release like that again. That could be a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and it was a very cool moment."

"I still want to create a lot of other highlights and high points, but I'm not sure if any other win will live up to what happened a few weeks ago," McIlroy admitted.

"I'm still going to set myself goals. I'm still going to try to achieve certain things. But I sit here knowing that that very well could be the highlight of my career."

As the No. 2 ranked golfer in the world looks to capture the Wanamaker Trophy this weekend, he sent a message to wife and family.

"I probably won't be quite as on edge as I have been for the last few years when I've been at major championships. I'll probably be a little bit better to be around for my family, and I'll be a little more relaxed. I think overall it will be a good thing.”

Following the PGA Championship Dinner honoring last year's winner, Xander Schauffele, 2008 champion Padraig Harrington agreed McIlory seemed different.

"Rory was one of the last to leave the dinner,” Harrington said, per Golf.com. “He’s very relaxed.”

McIlroy, who's won at Quail Hollow four times over the past 15 years, remains a favorite to win this week.
