The San Antonio Spurs continue to round out their roster with veteran NBA talent. They traded for Kelly Olynyk and signed Jordan McLaughlin and Luke Kornet. On Tuesday, they added four-year veteran Lindy Waters III.
Waters III has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, and Detroit Pistons. Last season, he posted 4.9 points on 34.4 percent shooting from deep and is expected to be a quality, if not sparsely used, bench player for the Spurs.

Now, it's true that Waters III is not exactly a key player on a team with title hopes, although as the 12th or 13th man, the Spurs were not going to be able to nab a superstar. On social media, fans were asking "who is this" or "is he any good," instead of criticizing the role, although there was some general befuddlement as to why the Warriors let him go in the first place.
Waters III and Dennis Schroder were traded to the Detroit Pistons last season in a deal that saw the Warriors land Jimmy Butler in a win-now move. While Waters III can be a solid bench player, giving him up for Butler was a no-brainer, and the Spurs might do the same.
Olynyk, Waters III, Keldon Johnson, and Harrison Barnes are all on incredibly tradeable contracts, and the Spurs might part ways with some depth pieces--like Waters III--in order to bring in a star to pair with Victor Wembanyama.
