SEC Basketball Standings Update
Greetings, BBN!
The midweek games had been pretty mediocre most of January and February—until this week! Some bonkers basketball took place Tuesday and Wednesday night as Georgia upset Kentucky at home, Texas and Texas A&M barely squeaked past LSU and Ole Miss, Missouri beat Vanderbilt 81-80 after almost blowing a 15-point lead, and to top it all off, Alabama beat Arkansas 117-115 in double overtime, despite Darius Acuff Jr.’s 49 points! Arkansas headed into halftime with a 10-point lead in that game, too, but despite it and Acuff playing all 50 minutes of the game, the Tide somehow came out on top.
It’s getting wild as March approaches the Southeastern Conference. Let’s take a look at the updated standings:
SEC Basketball Standings
Notes:
- Texas has won five in a row. 12-9 after a six-point loss at Auburn, most would’ve seen those Longhorns as barbecued and sauced steak dinners and Auburn as the NCAA Tournament team. Now, Texas is in excellent tournament position, while the Tigers need a strong finish to get in.
- Texas A&M finally stopped its four-game losing streak with a win over Ole Miss that saved its season from spiraling completely out of control. Next up for them is another must-win game at Oklahoma.
- Kentucky has fallen from 2nd to a tie for 5th thanks to consecutive losses to Florida and Georgia. Next up are trips to Auburn and South Carolina. Winning on the road is never easy, but both teams are teams that UK should not be losing to.
- Florida’s next game against a ranked opponent won’t be until the last day of the month, when they host Arkansas. Darius Acuff Jr. vs. the Gators will be an extremely interesting matchup, as will Boogie Fland playing his old team.
- Tennessee has won eight of its last 10 games. The only losses? Kentucky. . . and Kentucky.
