Should the Eagles inquire about adding another former Georgia Bulldog star to the roster?

An initial 53-man roster is due from all 32 NFL teams by Tuesday. Speculation has already begun. The Philadelphia Eagles haven't sat idly, but they employ the game's most aggressive general manager. Did you really expect them to?

No one maneuvers his way around draft boards come the end of April with more ingenuity than Howie Roseman. That never seems to quench his thirst, though. With an aggressive and unrelenting pursuit to consistently field the best team possible, he uses every tool in his tool belt: extensions, contract restructures, free-agent acquisitions, and navigating the trade block.

Keeping up with the Philadelphia transaction log is like trying to manage a successful Fantasy football league but deciding to take Sundays off. It isn't impossible by any means, but it's challenging. Blink, and you are almost sure to miss something.

Since the NFL Draft, they traded Bryce Huff away. They executed trades to bring in Jakorian Bennett, John Metchie III, and Sam Howell, and there are whispers that they might not be done dealing. If those whispers are true, may we take some time to revisit a theory that never gained any real traction?

The Eagles wouldn't consider trading for Travon Walker, would they?

They say, 'Where there is smoke, there is fire.' That isn't true of most rumors that surround the Philadelphia Eagles, though. It is expected that every disgruntled star seeking a trade or an extension will be linked to Philadelphia at some point. This is debated on the radio and television. Almost always, those debates are a waste of time and simply a fantasy.

Just look at what has happened since the new league year began. Hours have been spent debating why Myles Garrett, J.J. Watt, Micah Parsons, and Trey Hendrickson would make sense for an Eagles organization that never finds fatigue in improving its overall roster. There is, however, another name worth throwing out. It's one you have heard before. Remember when Travon Walker entered the conversation?

Yes, we know... We have never heard an official statement about Philadelphia's potential interest. Most of the backing for a possible move came from social media and some of the press. There is also this to consider. The Eagles have their own players to make decisions on and sign. Names like Reed Blankenship, Braden Mann, and Nakobe Dean come to mind. All are scheduled to hit free agency in 2026.

Then, there's Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith to think about. Bring those names up, and one has to ask. Why would the Eagles acquire Travon Walker, who is in a contract season?

The obvious answer is they probably shouldn't. The emotional answer points us in another direction. We have been conditioned to believe Howie Roseman can make anything happen. We've seen him do so too many times.

Too often, we have seen him blend contracts to remain under the salary cap. Even more often, we fail in enunciating how he continues to do so. If anyone can make room to add someone like Walker, it's Philly's general manager. It may require a first-round draft choice as part of a trade package, but with the roll Philly has been on, that first-rounder may be closer to the second round anyway.

Travon Walker was selected first overall by Doug Pederson's Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2022 NFL Draft. His stat line reads as follows: 49 games played, 48 starts, 162 tackles, and 24 sacks (including ten or more in each of the past two seasons). He has also intercepted a pass and forced three fumbles while also breaking up five passes.

Walker hasn't been named to a Pro Bowl, nor has he received postseason individual honors. He goes about his job quietly. It must be mentioned again, though. Despite being a first-overall selection, he again may be less expensive than the likes of Micah Parsons and company. Might that be enough to make Howie Roseman at least make a phone call to Duval County? It's certainly worth giving some thought to this.
