Skylar Diggins signs with Chicago Sky as free agentSkylar Diggins is joining a franchise with a fitting name.

The Chicago Sky announced on Saturday that they’re signing of the veteran point guard. She joins the Sky on a two-year contract, per a source familiar with the deal.

Chicago is once again attempting to be competitive rather than start a rebuild after parting ways with Angel Reese in a recent trade. Diggins is heading into her 12th WNBA season and will turn 36 in August, but she was an All-Star last season, helping lead the Seattle Storm to a near-upset of eventual champion Las Vegas Aces in the first round of the playoffs. She likely will be the best point guard to change teams during free agency, giving the Sky a veteran presence to run their team, as they hoped for Courtney Vandersloot last season.

Diggins is a versatile threat on offense. She was one of two players who appeared in at least 20 games in 2025 to average at least 15 points and six assists, along with Alyssa Thomas.

Diggins will join fellow free-agent acquisition Azurá Stevens on Chicago’s new-look roster. Stevens spent three seasons there and won a title in 2021 before leaving for Los Angeles. She presumably will slot in for Reese as the starting power forward alongside Kamilla Cardoso. A career 35 percent 3-point shooter, Stevens brings the spacing the Sky need around their franchise center.

Chicago made one more move Saturday signaling its intents to win this season, trading away a 2028 first-round pick for Jacy Sheldon. Sheldon was the No. 5 pick in the 2024 draft, but the price seems awfully high for a backup guard who has averaged 6.3 points and 2.2 assists over two seasons. The 2028 draft will likely include UConn’s Sarah Strong, Vanderbilt’s Mikayla Blakes, South Carolina’s Joyce Edwards and potentially USC’s JuJu Watkins.

While the Sky build for the present, Diggins’ former team in Seattle has an eye on the future. In addition to Diggins’ departure, fellow All-Stars Nneka Ogwumike and Brittney Sykes are off to Los Angeles and Toronto, respectively. Multiple sources told The Athletic that Gabby Williams is also expected to find a new home this offseason, with the Golden State Valkyries making a strong push for the French national.
