Slate: North Dakota Gameday!
Kansas State (#17, 0-1, 0-1 Big 12) plays North Dakota tonight at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The game is a home opener for the Wildcats and the season opener for the [REDACTED] or whatever that team from that place calls itself now. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT and the game can be streamed via ESPN+. As usual, you can find these details and more in Jon Morse’s How to Watch post.
The Wildcats will look to bounce back this week after a disappointing outing in Dublin. In his press conference this week, Chris Klieman stressed that the outcome of the Ireland game, though not favorable, was still something Kansas State could build on.
The biggest thing now is: How do we respond? And not for one week, but how do we respond for the long haul. This is still a marathon and not a sprint. This is something we’ll learn and grow from.
Even with a new game and a new opponent lined up for the week, all the talk around Manhattan remains about Farmageddon, a nickname the Big 12 conference doesn’t like all that much. (Pfft. Party poopers!) The elephant-shaped harvester in the room is Dylan Edwards and the injury that took him out right at the start of the last game. But it looks like Edwards is recovering and will be back in action just in time for the conference slate.
QB Avery Johnson had a mostly good game in Dublin, at least statistically speaking. But the jury is still out on Johnson at least to the extent that the performance has not matched the hype. Yet. The season is still young and Johnson should have himself a game against UND.
The game in Dublin was not just a loss for Kansas State, but also marks the end of one of college football’s longest uninterrupted series. The teams have been playing each other annually since 1917, but the practical realities of an expanded Big 12 means that streak is over. But the programs would like to keep playing every year, and Kansas State AD Gene Taylor is certainly interested in making Farmageddon happen in 2027.
Since our game is on late, consider this your open thread for all the early games on tap.
Go Cats!
