Social media reacts as Iowa women’s basketball falls vs. Virginia
As second-seeded Iowa women's basketball (27-7, 15-3 Big Ten) saw its 2025-26 season come to a stunning conclusion on Monday afternoon after dropping an 83-75 double-overtime decision to No. 10 seed Virginia (22-11, 11-7 ACC) in the round of 32 from a sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Hawkeyes fans took to social media to voice their opinion on the shocking defeat.
Overall, Iowa finished as a team shooting 31-for-84 from the floor, 5-for-29 from 3-point land, and 8-for-16 from the free-throw line. However, the inability to close the door on the Cavaliers at several points in the game allowed Virginia to claw back time and again.
With Iowa exiting the NCAA Tournament in the round of 32 for the second consecutive season, here are some of the top social media reactions from Hawkeyes fans:
Go Hawks.
You all were a joy to watch all season long.
The result wasn't what you wanted, but you still made us very proud.
The future is blindingly bright.— Kevin Helmick (@mickhelmick4) March 24, 2026
Love you all! What a wonderful season you had. Thanks for everything Hawks! Best of luck to our seniors you will all be missed!🖤💛— KerryA22 (@KAFevHawk22) March 23, 2026

Iowa will be fine going forward.
3 sophomores in the starting lineup, promising freshman waiting to develop, huge recruiting classes.
Even Caitlin got bounced in the first weekend. That’s basketball. https://t.co/zeOUIUB7ej— Quinn Douglas (@Quinn_Douglas_) March 23, 2026
Feels like the 2022 loss to Creighton all over again. No. 2 seed, poor 3-point shooting (5-for-22 against Creighton), & both years each team had a ton of talent returning. Unfortunate ending, but you have think Iowa will improve because of it in the long run. https://t.co/CkfJZRJMLu— Ben Schuff (@BRSchuff) March 23, 2026
Hard to think about @IowaWBB success over the last few years without thinking of Hannah Stuelke and Kylie Feuerbach. Both played huge roles this season. Going to miss watching them play!— Meghan (McKeown) Wallace (@McKeown_Wallace) March 23, 2026
Shout out to a fantastic career to Kylie Feuerbach.
One of the best defenders in the country and just was a joy to watch play the last few years.— Skim Milkey (@SkimMilkey) March 23, 2026
Hannah Stuelke, an all-time fan favorite, stays and signs autographs for the kids despite a crushing, career-ending loss with Iowa. Total class act. Wish her the best. #Hawkeyes lose to Virginia 83-75 in 2OT pic.twitter.com/JAzFyeMLwZ— Scott Reister (@scottreister) March 23, 2026
Iowa loses
I remember saying in November after the Baylor game that free throws were gonna cost Iowa a game and here it is at the worst possible time
Can't win with Hannah 1-6 from the stripe and with Chat 2-4 on absolutely critical free throws
This game exposed every weakness…— CC Report (@cc22report) March 23, 2026
I hope no one transfers from the womens team. Lots of potential with the young players. I can see Deal taking a big leap next year.— Ross (@RJHINDM) March 23, 2026
I just want to give every player on the @IowaWBB team a mom hug. We love you all and are proud of you. 💛🖤🫶🏻— katie💫 (@katiejo_ia) March 23, 2026
Tough loss to end this season - but Hannah, Kylie, Taylor, and Jada made every @IowaWBB fan so proud. Future remains bright!— Zach Wahls (@ZachWahls) March 23, 2026
Love this team and program a lot, but no question the youth of this team showed today. I didn’t see any rhythm at all and frankly the first round showed the same. Not all negative we had a great season but sadly it comes to an end. They’ll regroup and be stronger next season . https://t.co/hJnARFJTmD— OnIowaGoHawkeyes (@OHawkeyes) March 23, 2026
