Social media reacts to David Stone staying at Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Sooners have made several significant additions via the transfer portal. But perhaps the biggest portal news came when David Stone decided to withdraw his name from the transfer portal on Sunday night.
John Mateer and Jaydn Ott were huge additions for the Oklahoma Sooners offense. But retaining a player of David Stone's potential at a premium position from Oklahoma, with three years of eligibility remaining, was enormous. Oklahoma couldn't afford to lose a significant piece of their defensive tackle rotation for 2025 and a guy likely to start at defensive tackle as soon as this year but at least by 2026.
David Stone is a cornerstone piece for the foundation of Brent Venables' defense and Oklahoma was able to keep him in Norman where Stone can continue to develop into the player that everyone believes he can be.
Sooner Nation was ecstatic with the news of Stone's return and here's how social media reacted to the former five-star staying in Norman.
From the Man himself
Sooner Nation after taking the necessary time & examining my options… I have removed my name from the portal & will be furthering my education & career at 🅾️U!! Sooner Born…Sooner Bred… & when I die I’ll be Sooner dead!! #BoomerSoonerpic.twitter.com/dTBdzXWFu6— David “Stoney” Stone Jr. (@iamdavidstonejr) April 21, 2025
Huge win for all sides
Immense credit to Oklahoma and David Stone for coming to a resolution and making this thing work
Stone loves Todd Bates/OU and OU obviously doesn’t want an in-state former 5-star walking out the door after one year
A win for both parties— Josh Callaway (@JoshMCallaway) April 21, 2025
From the DL Coach
Choosing a university to attend is one of biggest decisions you’ll ever make. Fans love this game…but many never experience the pain or challenges that players go through especially in this new era of college football. Love for somebody comes out as hate when you are hurt &… pic.twitter.com/yLM8wrV0w3— Todd Bates (@CoachToddBates) April 21, 2025
The right resolution
The David Stone saga was always a weird one. He has a GREAT relationship with the staff and loves Oklahoma. Glad this was resolved for everyone involved. #Sooners should have one of the best defensive lines it's had in a long time.— George Stoia III (@GeorgeStoia) April 20, 2025

Relationships Matter
Unlike what happened with a certain offensive lineman after the 2023 season, David Stone showed a lot of maturity with his willingness to keep the lines of communication open with his teammates and coaching staff.— John Williams (@john9williams) April 21, 2025
Has a chance to write his name in Stone

Jim Nagy doing work
Jim Nagy might need a statue in Heisman Park by the end of his tenure at OU.
Holy smokes, David Stone remains in Norman.
Sooner Nation, you seeing any “Brokelahoma” tweets today?
Yeah, didn’t think so. #BOOMER— ⭕️U - Woerzy (@woerzyfbaby) April 21, 2025
Kept Him Home
Helluva job keeping David Stone as a Sooner. Can’t see those instate kids who love the university leave.— Jeffy (@xjeffyyy) April 21, 2025
Had to Have Him
David Stone entered the transfer portal Friday. However, Oklahoma wanted to find a way to keep in Norman. Mission accomplished.
Big win for OU. Stone ranked as a top-10 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class and was the No. 1 ranked available player in the transfer portal. https://t.co/msXVUsUpMa— Matt Zenitz (@mzenitz) April 20, 2025
