Steelers receive update on potential quarterback trade target

The Pittsburgh Steelers already pulled off one trade this offseason, acquiring the ever-talented Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts. But Anthony Richardson, another trade candidate that's been linked to the Steelers in recent months, received a key update on his status with the Colts.

According to Stephen Holder of ESPN, the Colts are still negotiating with multiple suitors "interested" in Richardson, but no deal is "imminent" as the first week of free agency comes to a close. He added that a team to keep an eye on is the Green Bay Packers.

Richardson, who was drafted by the Colts in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has seemingly fallen out of favor with Indianapolis following multiple injury concerns and infamously checked himself out of a game mid-drive because he was tired.

While there are few quarterbacks as polarizing as Richardson at the moment, he's one of the most gifted quarterbacks in terms of arm strength and mobility, which is why other teams have been interested in trading for him.

If the Steelers could trade a Day 2 to Day 3 pick for Richardson, pairing him up with proven-quarterback guru Mike McCarthy, he could potentially emerge as Pittsburgh's long-term answer at signal caller. Or, at worst, he'd become a solid backup for years to come.
