Steelers updated salary cap space after the Jalen Ramsey, Minkah Fitzpatrick trade

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Miami Dolphins to land cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. All three players were traded in part because of their current contracts. According to Over The Cap, here's the current salary cap situation for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh now has $18.622 million in salary cap space. This is plenty of money for the Steelers to sign another safety or wide receiver this offseason and still get a new contract done for star edge defender T.J. Watt. The Steelers have taken on several huge contracts this offseason but as we all know, there isn't a general manager in the NFL who can manipulate the cap via contracts like Omar Khan.

The Steelers still spend far more on their defense but the disparity doesn't seem quite as excessive as it has been in the past. Pittsburgh has spent $178.9 million on defense and $105.05 million on offense, along with a paltry $12.5 million on special teams.
