Superior, Northwood seniors named Scholar Athletes

Apr. 22—Two local seniors were recently named as 2025 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Scholar Athletes. Paolo Pagnucci of Superior is recognized in Division 1 and Jared Schultz of Gordon is recognized in Division 4.

Over 800 seniors were nominated for the award, which recognizes excellence in both academics and athletics. Four female students and four male students in each division were selected and will be honored at a May 4 ceremony in Stevens Point.

Schultz has a 4.0 GPA and is first in his class at Northwood High School, according to a WIAA news release. He has played football, basketball and baseball.

On the Northwood/Solon Springs football team he received Northwoods West Conference football Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards, is a four-time first-team all-conference selection and was the 2024 Telegram Football Player of the Year.

On the Northwood basketball team, Schultz was all-time leading scorer, surpassing 1,950 career points. Schultz also helped lead the Northwood/Solon Springs baseball team to a state runner-up finish as a junior.

Schultz will attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls to study finance and play football.

Pagnucci has a 3.98 GPA, plays tennis and soccer, and is a swimmer.

On the Spartan swimming and diving team, he is a three-time recipient of Lake Superior All-Conference honors and a four-time team most valuable player. On the tennis court, he was a first-team all-conference selection as a junior.

Pagnucci will attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire to study kinesiology.
