Takeaways from USC women's basketball's 66-59 victory over Wisconsin
On Thursday night, the USC women's basketball team defeated Wisconsin 66-59 at Galen Center. With the victory, the Trojans improved to 17-9 on the season and 9-6 in Big Ten play.
What did we learn from the game? Here are a few key takeaways:
Six in a row
USC has now won six games in a row. While the schedule has gotten somewhat easier, it is an impressive turnaround for the Trojans after a 1-6 stretch in January.
Strong defense
Unlike the men's team the night prior, the Women of Troy played excellent defense, holding Wisconsin to just 59 points. In fact, Eric Musselman's team allowed nearly as many points in the first half against Illinois as Lindsay Gottlieb's group allowed the entire game.
Williams owns the boards
True freshman Laura Williams has emerged as a key player off the bench for the Trojans. Getting the start against Wisconsin, she had a massive game on the glass, pulling down 14 rebounds, the most of her college career to date.
Jazzy stays hot
It was another impressive game for Jazzy Davidson. Coming off of her third consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor, Davidson scored over 20 points for the fourth consecutive game, dropping 24 along with six assists, five rebounds, four steals, and three blocks.
Up next
Believe it or not, USC has just three games remaining in the regular season, with two of those three coming against top ten opponents. Up first is a trip to Columbus, Ohio on Sunday to take on No. 10 Ohio State. Tipoff is set for 11:00 a.m. Pacific time/2:00 p.m. Eastern time on FS1.
