Team USA Shells Giants 15-1 in First Exhibition Match
Team USA blew out the San Francisco Giants in their first exhibition match of the spring, taking a 15-1 victory.
The contest lasted 11 innings by Team USA’s request, as they wanted to get more reps in before heading out to the World Baseball Classic. USA wasted no time getting on the board, with captain Aaron Judge hitting a two-run single in the top of the first to give them the lead.
The Giants struck back in the bottom of the first through a Patrick Bailey groundout, but that proved to be their only run of the game.
Alex Bregman hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth inning to continue the scoring, and accounted for one of two homers Team USA hit during the game. Bryce Harper hit a two-run single in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to four runs, and Roman Anthony hit the final homer of the game — a two-run shot — in the top of the sixth to give Team USA a six-run lead.
The Giants lent some players to Team USA during the match, and even they came through during the contest. Charlie Szykowny hit a one-run double in the seventh, and Dakota Jordan hit a one run single to score Szykowny.
Gavin Kilen also got in on the action for Team USA, with a one-run single scoring Ernie Clement.
The superstars took over once again afterwards, with Gunnar Henderson, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Cal Raleigh combining for five RBIs to close out the game.
Paul Skenes pitched the first three innings for Team USA and allowed the only run while striking out four batters. Matt Boyd, Gabe Speier, Griffin Jax, David Bednar, R.J. Dabovich (Giants) and Mason Miller finished the remainder of the game, striking out eight more Giants.
San Francisco managed just six hits on the day, accounting for nine total bases. Neither of the two Dodgers on Team USA’s roster — Will Smith nor Clayton Kershaw — entered the game.
Team USA plays their final exhibition game ahead of the 2026 World Baseball Classic on Wednesday, as they face the Colorado Rockies at 12:10 p.m. PT. Their first match in the WBC comes against Team Brazil on Friday, March 6 at 5:00 p.m. PT.
Do you think Team USA can win the WBC this year?
