Texas A&M's offense erupts in 15–6 Game 1 win over Tennessee Tech

No. 25 Texas A&M (1–0) opened the 2026 season with authority on Friday night, rolling past Tennessee Tech 15–6 in front of a rowdy Olsen Field crowd. After a sluggish offensive start to the 2025 campaign, the Aggies wasted no time this year, blistering the ball from the opening inning and never letting up.

Making his first appearance since 2024, left‑hander Shane Sdao delivered exactly what A&M hoped for in his return to the Friday‑night role. The veteran retired the first six batters he faced and finished with five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits, no walks, and throwing 83 pitches. He earned the win before Ethan Darden and Cole Hubert closed the door, combining to allow just two runs on two hits the rest of the way.

Offensively, the Aggies came out scorching. Transfer infielder Chris Hacopian opened the scoring with an RBI single to plate Gavin Grahovac in the first. In the second, freshman Boston Kellner doubled to left‑center to score Terrence Kiel II, followed by RBI singles from Caden Sorrell and Hacopian to push the lead to 4–0 entering the third.

A&M added a run on a wild pitch in the third before going quiet on the scoreboard for two innings—though the bats continued to pepper the field with hard contact. Sorrell reignited the offense with a solo shot to center in the sixth, and Kiel added an RBI later in the frame to score Hacopian. In the seventh, Sorrell blew the game wide open with a three‑run homer, extending the lead to 12–4.

Tennessee Tech showed some late fight, trimming the deficit with a two‑run homer in the eighth. But freshman Nico Partida, who had been hitting rockets all night, delivered the exclamation point in the bottom of the inning—his first collegiate home run, a three‑run blast over the left‑field wall, sealing the 15–6 final.

Texas A&M will host Elon in Game 2 of the three‑game series on Saturday, Feb. 14. The matchup will stream on SEC Network+.
