Texas Longhorns baseball swept by Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville
So far, the Texas Longhorns baseball team has had to deal with very little failure. During it's rise to the No. 1 ranking, UT built a 19-2 conference record and were riding a 10-game winning streak. All of that came to a crashing end this weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Prior to weekend series, Texas was the only SEC team to win all seven series its played in. UT also had a streak of 13 consecutive series victories, its longest such streak in over 35 years.
Things got off to a bad start on Thursday, as the Hogs snapped the Texas win streak in emphatic fashion, winning 9-0. Arkansas scored all nine runs in the first four innings. Eight of the nine Razorbacks recorded hits, as one of the top offensive teams in the country chased righty Ruger Riojas in the fourth.
Friday wasn't much better. The Hogs clinched the series with a 6-1 win that was won in the second inning with an Arkansas four run inning. It was more than enough to give Razorbacks starter Gage Wood his first win of the season.
Saturday was an old-fashioned slugfest. Texas actually had a 7-6 lead in the top of the fifth inning. But Arkansas got seven runs in the final four frames to sweep the Longhorns.
Texas, who will undoubtedly lose its No. 1 ranking this week, will try to regroup with a midweek game against Lamar and a home series against the Florida Gators.
